Poster Mock-up and Photoshoot Plan - Change of Idea

I completed a mock-up and photoshoot plan for my poster before I had come up with a proper idea that I now have.

THE MOCK-UP:
The mock-up was of a surgeon and for it to simply say 'The Surgeon' at the bottom. However, this was before I had done me research into other film posters and found out that other factors such as a billing box, actor's names etc needed to be present in order to be a conventional film poster. During the production process, things had changed and new ideas had sprung from other factors such as getting new props (like the surgeon-like tool and images of the female protagonist present in my poster) which then led me to my final poster.

THE PHOTOSHOOT PLAN:
The photoshoot plan was thus based on the ideas I had before my final one that I went for and are details of how I would've taken those images and edited them. However, I am more confident with the images I took for my final idea and went through the same process when thinking how to take the images and how to edit them also.

The Surgeon poster third and FINAL FINAL draft

Although they were minor changes, I made a third draft for my film poster. I changed the details located at the top of the poster such as the actor's names, date line and film tag line to the same font as the film title on the poster (Urban Jungle).
I did this so it could match exactly with my film website. I initially thought that the font was too hard to read and wanted the details to be clear and legible but after testing the font out, I found it was easily readable once zoomed out and viewed at 100% - the typical view when looking at website. Therefore, I left the font in Urban Jungle so the entirety of the poster would match and to heighten the overall branding of all my productions.

In addition to this, I also moved the position of the website link and the film company logos: Dolby and THX so ensure they're all in line. I used the Grid Tool to help me do this.

The third and final draft of my poster can be seen below:

Second/Final draft of 'The Surgeon'

Making the (2nd draft/final) poster

I had to re-draft my poster as I made the original on Picnik using one of their fonts. I therefore encountered a problem when making the website as I had to do this using Photshop and they did not have the same font as I originally used on Picnik. I made a new poster adding new aspects to the old one, such as actor names and managed to cahnge the font to match with the font that is featured on my website and to keep the branding of my film consistent.

My role so far this week...

Today I made the website for my film 'The Surgeon'. After I made the final touches to the website background image (changing a few names in the billing box and the positioning of the social media buttons and text) I then opened Macromedia Dreamweaver and commenced to make the website itself.
A link to the website will be be uploaded in a future post...

The Surgeon First Draft Trailer Feedback

We showed the first draft of our trailer to a Year 12 media class and printed them a questionnaire of 10 questions in order to get their feedback. This was effective as we got to see what people thought of our trailer and it also gave us direction during the editing process after showing them. We got feedback from 16 people and below is an interactive version of the feedback sheets. The first page is blank in order to see the questions that were being answered by the audience.

Making the production page: Miami Canal

We both contributed in the making of this production page. We picked an image from Google on which we both agreed was best and then also edited it using Photoshop and Picnik.
A print screen of the final product can be seen below which will feature near the start of the trailer:

Making the production page: Knight Studios

My filming partner Tibyaan made the production page for trailer feature of 'Knights Studios'. We brainstormed effective words that could look good with an object image such as apple, keyhole, sky and raindrop, but eventually settled on a knight,in the chess piece context. After choosing the best image of a knight piece, she then edited it in Picnik where she also added text and saved the final product in order for it to appear in our trailer.
A print screen of it can be seen below:

Making the mpaa screen

I made the mpaa screen which is the green coloured opening page you usually see at the start of American trailers. Using an internet example as a template, I made the screen on Photoshop by dying the background green and copying the texts from the template as well as the drop shadow.
A print screen of the final product which will feature at the start of the trailer can be seen below:

Yesterday & Today :

YESTERDAY...
Me and Tibs rounded up filming. The scenes which were filmed yesterday were:
 - Polina hiding from the bodyguards who were chasing after her
 - The bodyguards running and then separating to look for her
 - The bodyguards dragging her into a room
 - The bodyguards watching over Polina in a caged room
 - A close-up on Polina's feet as she's being dragged
 - The moon!
 - Polina in the foreground and the bodyguards in the background running towards her...and she collapses (improvisation)
 - Polina running into a Phonebox and frantically making a call
 - Polina at the canal
All the above shots were filmed many times over from different angles and different proximities and images we took during the time of filming will be added soon.

TODAY...
We logged and captured all ^ that footage onto Final Cut Pro and continued editing.

'The Surgeon' Poster First Draft

This is my first draft of 'The Surgeon' poster. I used the website 'Picnik' to edit the image and this is the final product. A billing box will be added at a later date, perhaps in my second draft. The process of how I created the poster is outlined in a powerpoint below.

The Surgeon Poster Editing Process

Re-shoot Images For The Poster

I narrowed the images I took down to 6 pictures to choose for my poster. After asking peers on their opinion, I decided to choose the first image to edit.

Thursday 1 March 2012

Today...

After feedback from my initial images from my poster, I was then advised to re-shoot as my first pictures were too busy as there were a lot of things going on. Also, another piece of feedback was that the unorganised, messy (blood splatter and hand print) contradicts with the neat and organised (block of photos in the middle).
So...today I did a re-shoot taking the feedback on board by making the whole shot look messy and unorganised with less things going on - by not applying a bloody hand print - which will then make space for the film title as well as the billing box.
The images will be uploaded in a future post.

My filming partner Tibyaan and I have also been continuing with the editing of our footage.

Initial poster images...

Using the below inspiration and the fake blood, these are the images I took to potentially be used in my poster. the first 4 images are taken from one angle using a tripod (which didn't really work):

I then took images without the tripod from slightly different angles and with different light intensities.

Making the fake blood...

After watching the video tutorial on how to make the fake blood, I went shopping to buy the food colouring and then following the instructions, I began to make it!

After making the blood, I put some on my hand in order to make a bloody hand print for my poster image. Below is the picture I took in which you can see the colour and texture of the blood.

Poster Inspiration

These images all inspired the creation of my image that will be used as the poster image for 'The Surgeon'. I have drawn ideas and techniques from all 3 images and used similar aspects from each image to achieve the overall image for my poster.

Saturday 25 February 2012

Today...

I watched a tutorial video on how to make fake blood, which is embedded below. I bought the red and blue food colouring and then took the image for my poster! Images for my poster will be uploaded in a future post as well as the images I took when making the fake blood.

Last week + This week...and Next week

LAST WEEK we wanted to do the photo shoot for our poster of 'The Surgeon'. Due to unforeseen circumstances, (our main character being seriously ill) we were unable to complete this task which set us behind schedule slightly.
However, Tibs and I were able to be successful in our editing process and we log and captured a good amount of our footage onto Final Cut Pro after overcoming the technical difficulties.

THIS WEEK it was mock week so it made it very difficult for things to get done, however we stayed in the muse one day after school and finished logging and capturing the remainder of our footage and also began to edit the first few scenes of our teaser. We chose the sequence of the scenes, added fade ins and fade outs and also experimented with transitions from scene to scene. I also plan to take the image for the poster this weekend to begin creating the poster on the Monday.

NEXT WEEK...we plan to wrap up the last of our filming. Log and capture it on Final Cut Pro and continue with our editing as well as begin to create the film website based on the completed poster.

Tuesday 31 January 2012

This week...

Yesterday, my filming partner and I did some more shooting for our teaser. We made a plan of the shots we were going to film in our location of the train station but when we set up the tripod and the camera, a train station marshall came and informed us that we weren't allowed to film.

So...we were about to leave but since we put so much effort into planning the shots, I thought of a way in which we could modify the shots and still film without being caught (slyyyy one!)

So we managed to get good, lengthy footage in the train station, then returned back to my filming partner's Tibyaan's house to film the first few opening shots of Polina tied up to the chair breathing heavily and a close-up of her feet and hands. We then tried a new shot Tibyaan thought of on the spot which was as if Polina was about to jump out the window. That was tricky.

'The Surgeon' Poster Photoshoot Plan

These are four prospective ideas I came up with for potential photo ideas for the poster of 'The Surgeon'. I think each individual idea could be very effective if they're executed correctly.
